Love Live! was created in 2010 as a collaboration between ASCII Media Works' Dengeki G's Magazine, music label Lantis, and animation studio Sunrise. The original concept was to create a "school idol project" that would involve reader participation and audience interaction. The readers could vote for various aspects of the project, such as the names of the schools, groups, and characters, as well as the centers for upcoming singles. The voice actresses for the characters would also perform live concerts and events as their respective groups.
